Houston Well Represented in Race for the Cure

A record crowd turned out for the 19th Annual Komen Houston Race for the Cure on Oct. 3.
More than 32,000 participants were involved in the race, up from 30,000 last year.
So far, more than $2 million has been pledged toward the Komen Houston Affiliate’s goal of raising $3 million by Nov. 15.
The nonprofit Komen Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was created in 1990 to provide innovative breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved in southeast Texas. Since then it has granted $6 million for research nationally and $19 million for community grants in Harris, Fort Bend, Chambers, Montgomery, Brazoria, Liberty and Galveston counties.
Earlier this year, the Komen Houston Affiliate was ranked No. 1 for granting the most funds to its service area, topping 125 affiliate groups worldwide.
