Local celebrities will be among those attending The Salvation Army’s annual Houston Thanksgiving Day Buffet on Nov. 12, when a mouth-watering selection of food will be on offer. The public can head down to One Allen Center downtown at lunchtime for the 8th Annual Pro-Am Turkey Carving Contest. For a $5 donation, Houstonians can sample Thanksgiving Day meals prepared by restaurants including Carmelo’s Ristorante, Cuisine Charlemagne, Kona Grill, Strip House, Reggae Hut, Hilton Americas and the Doubletree Hotel.
Each restaurant will be paired with a local media celebrity. The roster includes Sherry Williams from KHOU Ch. 11, Jorge Vargas from KIAH Ch. 39, Booker and Sarah from Hot Hits 95.7, The Mad Hatter Morning Show from 97.9 and Adriana Calhoon from Univision Radio. The teams will be competing for the “Prettiest Bird,” “Best Carver,” “Best Presentation” and “Grand Champions” accolades.
Donations collected will go toward The Salvation Army, Greater Houston Area Command’s 2009 Christmas Assistance program, which serves more than 30,000 local individuals and families across Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties annually.
